My Musical Tastes
Do not touch my TV, my DVD, my stereo, my dual-deck VCR. Do not touch my old school, my new school, my slow jams, my party jams, my happy rap, and you better not touch... My James Brown!
~ Bernie Mac
A little known fact: I used to be a night club DJ way back! And I mean way way back from 1989-1991 at a small but popular night club called 'The Network' in Utica, NY. I was the Saturday night DJ. This was my 15 minutes of fame, it didn't burn that brightly and not a lot of people knew that it was me. But, I could make that club hop! And how do I miss it, something wicked I tell you!
My genre of music is R & B, Hip-Hop, Rap. I just never really like anything else. I know artists and some songs outside or my genre just from basic exposure. But this has been what I've known since I really started 'listening' to music!
Let me speak briefly on my thoughts of todays music with my likings. I think 90% of it is crap! I don't think it has anything to do with my age. I like new material as well as I like material from 25 years ago. I feel that a lot of these artists are more interested in how many singles and/or albums they can pump out in a short amount of time. If I have to wait 8 or 9 months or perhaps closer to a year for a GOOD album to come out. I'll wait! I don't think a 100% good album has been produced since the early 90's. Last one that I can think of that was really good was the Chronic album from Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. Granted there's been one here and there, but no consistency!
In the sections below are the selections from my youtube playlists. They're songs and videos that I really like. However, I didn't really care for the way youtube presented a playlist embedded on a webpage. So I wrote a script that does it! =) Mind you there are some videos that won't play because the infinite wisdom of the recording companies felt that they didn't want the video embedded on other webpages. Now, if I was a real dirty S.O.B. I could just rip the video from youtube and then play it but I'm not sure how citizen like that would be! So if you hit one that says watch it on youtube do so if you like!
If you like the script that generates the playlist elements and would like to run it on your hosted site just ask and I'll give you the code! =) This will NOT work on social networking sites! Silly rabbit, tricks are for kids!
Mary J Blige
Mary is the woman! I love me some Mary! I remember the summer of 1992 when the 411 was released. The whole thing was good, no, it was great! I scraped up money to go and buy that CD, well worth it! What ever Mary does it's with style, I don't ever thing the lady has been caught looking crazy in the streets. Mary hasn't gone without her demons either, but, she over came and prevailed! Mary keeps putting out quality R&B music that appeals to a wide range of people! Get'm Mary, do the damn thing!
Here are some of my favorite Mary J songs. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!!

My Fav Old Skool
Listen, I'll put my old skool music before any of the stuff that's out today! This past summer (summer '09) I've heard more old/older music coming from cars. And it wasn't radio play music either, it had to be either CD or MP3 player. It was refreshing to pull up next to another car at a stop light and hear Kool Moe Dee! Personally, I just don't think the quality of music today can meet what has been!.
There's more to come! I keep adding them as I think and/or hear them! This is perhaps going to be the biggest section of the page!

New Old Skool
New old skool .. contradicting terms to say the least! This is music from the past ten years, might be a little more or less. I hate to see my man Biggie in this section and I'm quite sure if the big guy was still here today he'd be setting standards. You are missed Notorious! This period of time still held many great songs. Yet, like I said before a good album was hard to find! A couple of songs here and there but nothing to make me want to jump up and buy the whole thing!

New Skool .. Currently current stuff
I like my new skool too! It's just that so much of it is just garbage! At the same time you have artists like L.L. Cool J that keep bringing it correct! Some of these more modern artists the music they put out sounds vaguely like a tune they previously had. Not to mention the messages and signals that these fellas and ladies project to the more impressionable listeners.
